People should wait for Supreme Court's verdict on CAA: Nitish

People should wait for Supreme Court's verdict on CAA: Nitish

Patna, Jan 28 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar today said there might be difference in opinion over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) but the issue of whether it is in accordance with constitution or not should be left to Supreme Court to decide.
Mr Kumar, after meeting party leaders at his official residence here, told media persons that Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) had now taken the shape of CAA after approval of Parliament and assent of the President.
' Difference in opinion over the CAA is now visible in various corners but the matter should not be raked up too much as is now pending in Supreme Court where petitions had been filed challenging its constitutional validity,' he said. People should wait for the verdict of Apex Court, rather than drawing an inference or the other on CAA, he added.
"Those having reservations or objections of certain kinds could place the same in Supreme Court and the issue should not be raked up too much", the chief minister said adding that CAA was now an Act and the states had no option to choose whether it could be implemented there or not. Any one having objections could place the same in the Apex court where the matter is now pending, he remarked.
Mr Kumar said that there was no question of preparing National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Bihar and he had made it clear earlier as well. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had already clarified that NRC was not round the corner and any debate or objection over it at present had no meaning, he pointed out.
