People of Maharashtra will punish Cong-NCP: Modi

Pune, Oct 17 (UNI) Targeting the Opposition Congress and NCP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Thursday claimed that the two parties fooled the public and will be punished in this Assembly elections.

Addressing an election rally in Satara district of Maharashtra for Udayanraje Bhosale, the descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who is contesting Lok Sabha bypoll, and Assembly candidate Shivendraraje Bhosale, he said that the people of the country have rejected the Congress everywhere in the assembly polls and the same will happen in Maharashtra.

Mr Modi, who was touring Maharashtra on Thursday for campaigning for the party candidates at Parli, Satara and Pune, exuded confidence that the BJP will win this assembly election with a thumping majority like it did during the recent Lok Sabha polls.

He further said that the people of Maharashtra were behind the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena state government because of the works that it has had done in last five years.

He slammed the Congress and NCP leaders for criticising BJP on abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The entire Satara gets angry when these leaders spread false rumours and try to defame leaders like Veer Savarkar," Mr Modi said.

Mentioning Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Prime Minister said that his government has bolstered the armed forces just like the Maratha king.

“Those with evil designs will be given a befitting reply by the people," he said.

Recalling the history of this district, the Prime Minister said, “In the land of 'rashtra rakshaks' (protectors of nation), there is no place for those who speak against the national interest. Your excitement and energy is making the Opposition lose its sense."

He said the western Maharashtra was earlier known as the stronghold of NCP, but today they (Opposition) do not have any candidate because of their 'wrong deeds'.

Taking a swipe at NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Mr Modi said that Mr Pawar did not contest the Lok Sabha election from Satara because he knew the way in which the wind was blowing.

He said that both Rajes (Udayan and Shivendra) would win the elections with a comfortable majority.

Mr Modi said that the Satara district has the potential to attract more tourism and added that it can become a top tourist destination in the country.
