Pegasus Row: BJP has taken leaf out of how Britishers treated Indians during colonial era, says Mehbooba

Pegasus Row: BJP has taken leaf out of how Britishers treated Indians during colonial era, says Mehbooba

Srinagar, Jul 23 (UNI) Asserting that 'a spyware used against terrorists has been weaponised to deal with political opponents and dissenters', former J&K chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday alleged that BJP has taken a leaf out of how Britishers would suspect and treat Indians during the colonial era.

Ms Mehbooba further alleged that the Centre has gone rogue and is brazenly subverting basic human rights.

The former chief minister was reacting to a digital news website's report that besides Delhi-based Kashmiri journalists, a prominent civil society activist critical of the official policy towards Jammu and Kashmir, over 25 people from Kashmir were selected as potential targets of surveillance between 2017 and mid-2019.

"A spyware used against terrorists has been weaponised to deal with political opponents & dissenters. BJP has taken a leaf out of how Britishers would suspect & treat Indians during the colonial era. GOI has gone rogue & is brazenly subverting basic human rights,” Ms Mehbooba wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
