PCB directs industries to pay about Rs 1.40 cr compensation to fishermen societies

Hyderabad, Oct 20 (UNI) Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) has directed 18 industries to pay Rs 1,03,28,200 as compensation to the Gandigudem fishermen society for the fish kill in Gandigudem tank.
Based on the estimation given by the Sangareddy District Fisheries Officer and the recommendation committee. the Board also directed 11 indutries to pay Rs 40,000 compensation to the fishermen society of Ayyamma tank. TSPCB said in release here on Friday.
The Board has also issued closure orders to 14 industreis and directed to 15 industries located in Khazipally and Gaddapotharam IDAs few days back.
The board officials have inspected the tanks and collected samples after receiving complaints of fish mortality in Gandigudem and Ayyamma tanks on October 4 and Ocotber 5 this year respectively.
Suspected 29 industries located in the catchment of the tanks ( 18 industries related to Gandigudem tank and 11 indutries related to Ayyamma Tank) were called for the hearing before Task Force committee on October 12.The District Fisheries Officer,representatives of the fishermen co-operative socieities and CPCB oficials were attended.
The compensation amount was paid by the industries concerned and same was handed over to the Sangareddy district collector for further necessary action to pay the compensation to the concerned fishermen societies, the release added.
All the industries will be reviewed after 15-days to review the action plans submitted by the industies, the board also directed.
The Board which taken serious note of the issue, will take stringent action against the industries for non-compliance. it is also noted that certain industries are repeatedly indulging in discharge of effluents and such industries are warned that repeated violations by the industries may result in stringent action which may include launching of prosecution.
