Pay hike under 7th pay panel most disappointing, support employees going on strike: Cong
New Delhi, Jun 30 (UNI) Describing the recommendation of the seventh pay commission as ‘most disappointing’, the Congress today expressed its support to the proposed agitation by the government employees, including those from the Railways, post and telegraph, on July 11 to express their resentment at the pay panel’s proposals. Talking to reporters here, AICC senior spokesperson Ajay Maken said, "This seventh Pay Commission has been the most disappointing and has seen the lowest hike in salaries in independent India. Federation of government employees(including armed forces) which include the Indian Railways, civilian employees of ordinance factories, post and telegraph have decided to go on a strike from July 11 to express their resentment over the pay panel’s proposals. We express support for the cause of the government employees and hope that good sense prevails and the government will review their decision.’’ Describing the pay hike under the seventh pay commission’s recommendations as the “worst pay hike in the history of Independent India”, Mr Maken said 47 lakh serving government employees and 53 lakh pensioners felt let down by the Modi government. He said it was disappointing that the hike in salaries and allowances was a mere 15 per cent on basic pay, and not 23.5 per cent as was being wrongly claimed by the present government.
