Passenger vehicle sales up by 11pc in domestic market in Sept 2017

New Delhi, Oct 9 (UNI) The Domestic passenger vehicle sales growth has been recorded up by 11 per cent to 3,09,955 units in September from 2,78,428 in the same month last year. According to the data released by Society for Indian Automobile Manufacturers here on Monday, the car sales in India went up 6.9 per cent to 2,08,656 units as against 1,95,259 units in September last year. While releasing the data, Rajan Wadhera, President of SIAM said that the trends for the second Quarter of FY 17-18 are encouraging as it has achieved double digit growth and other aspects of the economy are also strong.” He said motorcycle sales last month grew by 7 per cent to 12,69,612 units compared to 11,86,759 units in September 2016. Vehicle sales across categories registered a growth of 10 per cent to 24,90,034 units, from 22,63,620 in September 2016. Sales of commercial vehicles rose by 25.3% cent to 77,195 units in September. Mr Wadhera said, “At the moment, the industry growth is looking good. Good numbers in September sales are of course on account of the festive season. October will have two more festivals -- Dhanteras and Diwali. Overall, the environment looks conducive for growth.” The medium and heavy commercial sales have experienced an increase of 25.61 per cent, while light commercial vehicles are up 25.05 per cent.
