New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) Parvathaneni Harish, India’s ambassador to Germany, has been appointed as the next Ambassador/Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations at New York.
Parvathaneni Harish, an IFS officer of the 1990 batch, is expected to take up the assignment shortly, a statement said.
The position of India's ambassador or permanent representative to the UN had been lying vacant since Ruchira Kamboj retired in June.
Harish assumed charge as Ambassador of India to Germany on November 6, 2021.
Before that, he was Additional Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs, where he led the Economic Diplomacy Division.
He also led the Multilateral Economic Relations Division and was the Indian Sous Sherpa for G20, G7, BRICS and IBSA.
Harish learnt Arabic at the American University of Cairo. He has served in the Indian Missions in Cairo and Riyadh and headed the Post as India's Representative to the Palestinian Authority stationed in Gaza city.
He was the Chief of the Policy Analysis Unit at UNRWA Headquarters in Gaza.
He worked in the East Asia and External Publicity Divisions in the Ministry of External Affairs. He has also served as Joint Secretary and Officer on Special Duty to the Vice President of India.
He has served as Consul General of India, Houston, from July 2012-March 2016.
He was Ambassador to Vietnam from April 2016 to June 2019, according to his bio at the Indian Embassy in Berlin.
