In his nearly 90-minute long reply, the Prime Minister picked on the Congress which the BJP has often charged with instigating the farmers, describing the grand old party as ``confused and divided''.
Mr Modi said the Congress which ruled the country for nearly six decades has reduced itself to a confusing state of affairs as there was total lack of coordination in its approach in Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. ``Such a confused party cannot help the country or anyone...you want to shout inside Parliament, as you do outside, then go ahead, but hiding behind lies and concealing facts will never get you anywhere nor will you get the trust of the people,'' he said.
On the new farm laws and the protests at Delhi borders, the Prime Minister said there was no reason behind holding protests as the farm laws did not alter any old system and gave more freedom to the farmers. He said that Kisan Samman Nidhi was given to small farmers directly in their bank accounts, adding that 80 to 85 per cent of the farmers were small and marginal and had faced neglect in the name of farmers. He said that the number of landless labour had increased sharply and investment in agriculture was not forthcoming.
