New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) Parliament on Tuesday gave its nod to the Consumer Protection Bill, 2019, providing more teeth to consumer protection and rights, apart from keeping check on misleading advertisements.
Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan told the Rajya Sabha that the Bill also intends to provide maximum justice to the consumers and stricter punishment to the defaulters.
The Bill, which replaces the Consumer Protection Act 1986, provides fine ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh and imprisonment up to three years and will deal strictly with adulteration.
