Parl Secs row: Modiji, you can target me but don't harass people of Delhi, says CM

New Delhi, Jun 15 (UNI) Taking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of withholding assent to the bill amending the law on "Office of Profit", Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said, “If you want to target someone, then target me, but do not harass the people of Delhi.” “I appeal to you with folded hands, keep targeting us, do whatever you wish, but don’t harass the people of the national capital. Don’t make the people suffer,” he said. Addressing a news conference here, he said when the BJP and the Congress used to have Parliamentary Secretaries (PS), their decision became legal but when the AAP did it then it became illegal. Citing the example of the BJP appointing Sahib Singh Verma as a PS in 1997 and the Congress appointing Ajay Maken as a PS, he charged the two parties with showing double standards. Mr Kejriwal also said in the year 1953, three Parliamentary Secretaries were appointed in the national capital including HKL Bhagat, Shanta Vashisht and Shivcharan Das Gupta. Mr Kejriwal said, “The AAP MLAs were appointed as Parliamentary Secretaries based on the hard work done by them. Our MLAs are doctors, engineers and MBAs and are our eyes, ears and hands.” However, the fate of these MLAs, appointed Parliamentary Secretaries last year, became uncertain when President Pranab Mukherjee withheld his assent to the bill sent to him for amending the "Office of Profit" law. This was a major setback for the Kejriwal government. UNI SM RSA SB 2001
