Pandey, Warner power SRH to 175 for three against CSK

Pandey, Warner power SRH to 175 for three against CSK

Chennai, Apr 23 (UNI) Announcing his return to form Manish Pandey

scored an unbeaten explosive half century, and an usually explosive

David Warner scored his 43rd 50-plus score, as Sun Risers Hyderabad

scored 175 for three against defending champions Chennai Super Kings

(CSK) in the IPL match here on Tuesday night.

Asked to bat first, SRH lost in-form Bairstow early, but Warner, who

exploded initially, but started playing second fiddle to Pandey, who

kept the team in the hunt for a big total, before CSK bowlers pulled

back in the death overs to restrict to a decent total, on a wicket which

was not as slower as it was in earlier four matches, which was won by

CSK.

Manish Pandey, who anchored the innings, remained unbeaten on

83 (49 balls, seven fours, three sixers) added 115 with Warner for

the second wicket, but seemed to have lost the plot in the final five

overs, which fetched a mere 41 runs, despite Pandey in good nick.

For CSK Harbhajan claimed two wickets.

After the early exit of in-form Bairstow, who under-edged Harbhajan

to Dhoni in the second over, Warner and Manish Pandey plundered

the bowling scoring runs at will and clearing the fences immaculately.

After a regulative first three overs where runs were at a premium, both

Warner, in sublime form, and Manish, looking for a big score, cut loose,

as the ball flew all over the park as the duo set a strong platform scoring

90 for one at the half way stage.

Fours and sixers rained from their willows, as the bowlers gave the width,

erred in length, wilted for once as the shrewd CSK skipper M S Dhoni looked

clueless to arrest the onslaught.

In fact Manish outscored his most explosive partner, reaching half century of

a mere 25 balls, as runs flowed like a cascade.

Warner too completed his 43rd half-century of IPL as the duo raised their

100-run stand in just 59 balls.

When they were threatening to take a heavy toll of the bowlers, Harbhajan

struck in his last over, when a tired Warner (57, 45 balls, 3x4, 2x6) was

stumped by Dhoni ending the 115-run stand in 12 overs, only to see local

boy Vijay Shankar joining the party, 26 (20b 2x4 1x6) as SRH reached a

comfortable 134 for two in 15 overs, laying a sound platform to explode in

the final five overs, but CSk rose to the occasion in curtailing them in the

death overs.
