Panchayati Raj Institutions play key role in tackling COVID pandemic: Mani Shankar Aiyar

Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Nov 27 (UNI) The Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in India representing more than 65 per cent of the population will play a crucial role in tackling the Covid pandemic, said Mani Shankar Aiyar, former Union Minister for panchayati raj.
Delivering the inaugural address at the National Webinar on 'Empowerment or Disempowerment of the Panchayati Raj Institutions in Rural India: Agenda for Reforms', organised by the Academy of Grassroots Studies and Research of India (AGRASRI), on the eve of the 20th Anniversary Celebrations, here on Friday, Mani Shankar recollected the initiatives and reforms brought out by former PMs Rajiv Gandhi and P.V. Narasimha Rao Governments for the genuine PRIs in contemporary India.
The Congress leader regretted that eve after the completion of 27- year of an enactment of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, majority of State Governments not yet devolved the 3 Fs- Functions, Functionaries and Finances- to the PRIs.
