Pala Assembly bypoll on Sep 23

Kottayam, Aug 25 (UNI) The bypoll for Pala Assembly seat in Kerala will be held on September 23.

This was announced by the Election Commission of India in New Delhi on Sunday.

The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of former Finance Minister and Kerala Congress leader KM Mani.

The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force with immediate effect, Official sources said.

After the issuance of Gazette notification on August 28, the candidates can file their nominations till September 4. The date for Scrutiny of Nominations is September 5 and the last date for Withdrawal of Candidatures is September 7.

The counting will be held on September 27.

Meanwhile, Ms Nisha, wife of Rajya Sabha MP and Kerala Congress leader Jose K Mani, is likely to contest the Assembly seat, party sources said here.

Another senior leader, PJ Joseph, who is on a tug of war with Jose K Mani, clarified that he will welcome Ms Nisha only if she has the chance of winning the seat.

However, the by-election to Mancheswaram Assembly seat was not announced by the Election Commission today. The bypoll should be held following the demise of IUML MLA, PB. Abdul Razak.

With the win of four more sitting MLAs -- Hibi Eden (Ernakulam), Adoor Prakash (Ranni), K Muralidharan (Vattiyoorkavu) and AM Arif (Aroor) -- to Lok Sabha in the election held few months ago, bypoll will be held in their respective Assembly constituencies in the near future.
