Pakistan to amend Army Act to let Jadhav appeal in civilian court

Pakistan to amend Army Act to let Jadhav appeal in civilian court

Islamabad, Nov 13 (UNI) Pakistan is amending its Army Act to allow Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav the right to file an appeal in a civilian court in compliance with the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) verdict, ARY News reported quoting sources.
Jadhav was tried and sentenced by a Pakistani military court and current laws do not allow appeal.
Jadhav, 49, was sentenced to death in 2017 on espionage and terrorism charges.
In July this year, the ICJ upheld India's claim that Pakistan violated its obligations under the Vienna Convention by not allowing India consular access to Jadhav.
The world court had ordered Islamabad to carry out an effective "review and reconsideration" of his conviction.
Pakistan has claimed that Kulbhushan Jadhav was "arrested" from Balochistan by its security forces on March 3, 2016.
However, India has rejected these charges and maintained that Jadhav, a former Indian Navy officer, was kidnapped by Pakistan's security forces when he was in Iran on a business trip.
