Pakistan: Imran Khan survives vote of confidence

Islamabad, Mar 6 (UNI) Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan survived a vote of confidence by securing 178 votes – 6 more than required – in the National Assembly here on Saturday.
The special session of the National Assembly (NA) was called after Khan voluntarily sought a trust vote after an upset in the Senate elections.
Khan needed 172 votes to win the confidence vote.
The Speaker of the NA announced the result, and said that eight years ago, Prime Minister Imran had been elected to the post with 176 votes. “Today, he has secured 178 votes,” Dawn reported.
From his own party PTI 155 lawmakers voted in support of Khan. While seven lawmakers from the MQM-P, five each from the Balochistan Awami Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid, three from Grand Democratic Alliance and one each from the Awami Muslim League and the Jamhoori Watan Party voted in favour of the prime minister.
The independent candidate Aslam Bhotani also voted in support of Khan.
Addressing the House after securing the trust vote, Imran Khan thanked government lawmakers, including his allies, for staying by his side through thick and thin.
