Jammu, Jul 8 (UNI) A woman was killed and another civilian was injured as Pakistan troops during wee hours on Wednesday morning fired unprovoked and shelled forward villages along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources here said that at about 0200 hours, Pakistan troops initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with Small Arms and intense shelling with Mortars along LoC in Balakote and Mendhar sectors in District Poonch.
"Indian Army retaliated befittingly to the firing, which stopped at about 0245 hours," they said. Sources said that one lady died and another civilian suffered injuries in the cross border firing.
"One civilians expired on the spot due to splinter injuries and another civilian sustained splinter injuries," a police official confirmed.
The deceased lady was identified as Rasham Bi (60) wife of Mohammad Azam of Lanjote, Mendhar and injured namely Hakam Bi (58), wife of Mohammad Shareef also of Lanjote, Mendhar has been hospitalized.
