Srinagar, Sep 26 (UNI) A suspected Pakistani militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad was killed and three people, including two civilians, were injured during an anti-militancy operation in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday evening, police said.
The gunfight broke out at Batpora area of Kulgam when joint teams of forces launched a cordon and a search operation (CASO) following an input about militant presence.
“As the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter a terrorist of proscribed terror outfit JeM killed,” a police officer said, adding the search operation in the area is still underway.
Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said slain was a Pakistani and was associated with JeM.
“(The) killed terrorist has been identified as Abu Hurarah, a foreign Pakistani terrorist linked with proscribed terror outfit JeM. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including AK rifle recovered (from the encounter site,” ADGP Kashmir was quoted in a police tweet.
Earlier, a soldier and two civilians were injured in the encounter.

Prior to the Kulgam operation, this month nine militants have been killed in various gunfights in Kashmir.
