Padmavati: UP govt asks I&B ministry to look into controversy

Lucknow, Nov 15 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government has shot off a letter to the Union Information and Broadcasting ministry, asking to look into the controversy over the upcoming Bollywood film Padmavati and ask the Film Censor Board to release the movie considering the sentiments of the people in the country.


The letter written by the state home department also said the film is slated to be released on December 1 which should be deferred as on that day, counting of votes of the civic polls would be taken up while December 2 is Barabafat festival.


"The release of the film on December 1 could create severe law and order problem in UP hence the date of the release of the film should be deferred ," the letter said which was released to the media on Wednesday night.


It further said that wrong depiction of Rani Padmavati's character in the Sanjay Leela Bansali's film has annoyed the people of the entire country hence the censor board should look into the matter seriously as protests started after the release of the trailer of the film in October last.
