Padmavati controversy: I&B Ministry should resolve issue taking into confidence secs whose sentiments have been hurt: Cong

New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) Charging the Government of maintaining a silence on the controversy generated by the film 'Padmavati', the Congress on Friday said the Information and Broadcasting Ministry should reach a resolution on the issue keeping in view the sections whose sentiments have been hurt by the film.

Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson Rajeev Shukla said,'there has been a huge controversy surrounding the the film Padmavati. the situation has reached a level where threats are being issued to chop the nose of the artists of the film as also to burn the cinema halls.

The Government must find a way to resolve the issue. It is the responsibility of the Censor Board and the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to achieve a resolution of the matter. For, if sentiments of a particular community are being hurt, requisite steps should be taken to ensure that an amicable resolution of the issue is reached. Merely maintaining a silence in the matter will only worsen the matter.'

He said the Government should ask the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to resolve the issue by talking to both the sides.

'Sitting on the issue can lead to the situation worsening. Theatres could be burnt and their law and order situation could deteriorate. The Ministry should take immediate action in the mattr making sure that sentiments of any section or community are not hurt.

If some sections are feeling that some historical facts are being twisted, then their sentiments should be respected,'Mr Shukla said.

The film Padmavati has evoked protests from sections from the Rajput community who feel that the contents of the film are likely to hurt sentiments.
