Paddy procurement on support price finally begins today in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Dec 1 (UNI) Pulling back from confrontation with the Modi Government at the Centre after its refusal to procure rice from Chhattisgarh for the central pool due to announcement for paddy procurement at support price of Rs 2,500 per quintal, the Bhupesh Government in Chhattisgarh has finally begun procuring paddy at the support price specified by the Centre on Sunday.
The Congress came to power in the state last year with a promise of procurement of paddy at the support price of Rs 2,500 per quintal. Paddy procurement was already underway when it came to power in December last year. The Congress government transferred the amount of support price and the difference amount for Rs 2,500 to bank accounts of the farmers. This time, however, the Centre did not grant permission to procure paddy at support price of Rs 2,500.
Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan made it clear that the Center will not take rice for central pool from the states giving bonus or additional amount on support price to the farmers. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had sought time to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard but he was not given time. Seeing no other option he went to Delhi along with farmers in thousands of vehicles and announced agitation on this issue. But he soon dropped this plan in view of Ayodhya verdict. He called for an all-party meeting of MPs in this regard, but BJP MPs did not attend it. Later, the Congress workers gheraoed houses of the MPs.
