Pachhad bypolls:HP Cong accuses Speaker for canvassing for BJP candidate, demands resignation

Shimla, Oct 10 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, in a statement on Thursday, asked Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rajiv Bindal to step down from the post for allegedly campaigning for ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Pachhad assembly bypolls.
In a press statement issued by HPCC president, Kuldeep Singh Rathore, alleged that Mr Bindal was defying the dignity of his post by participating in the election campaign in favour of ruling party candidate in district where Election Commission has enforced Model Code of Conduct for Pachhad assembly by-election scheduled to be held on October 21.
He alleged that Mr Bindal reportedly canvassed for BJP candidate Ms Reena Kashyap, contesting from Pachhad assembly bypoll.
"Mr Bindal is free to participate in active politics, but before that he should resign from the constitutional post, upholding its dignity," Mr Rathore stated.
The Speaker is a member of Assembly from Nahan of District Sirmaur. The Congress leader alleged that Mr
Bindal was time and again participating in election activities in Nahan which is the sheer violation of the MCC.

Mr Rathore also warned that party would not hesitate to take strong stance against the EC if the body fails to take immediate action against the Speaker.
