Over 3942 dengue cases reported in Punjab this year

Phagwara, Oct 11 (UNI) More than 3,942 confirmed dengue cases were reported in Punjab from January 1 to October10 this year.
As many as 159 dengue positive cases were reported in Phagwara.
This was confirmed by Special Secretary Health Puneet Goyal and epidemiologist Sumit Sharma while talking to UNI, after meeting with Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bakhtawar Singh and Kapurthala Civil Surgeon here on Thursday.
Goyal, who visited Phagwara to assess the situation arisen after dengue epidemic, said that all preventive measures are being taken by health department, but awareness among the people is dire need of the hour. He said the dengue outbreak needed to be dealt with by all concerned departments including Health and Local Bodies department.
Goyal along with senior officers of health and local bodies department visited Hadiabad localities.
Kapurthala Civil Surgeon Dr Balwant Singh told newsmen that larva of dengue was detected at 429 houses while it was found from 611 containers out of 24,000 checked. He advised people to avoid self medication and use maximum water in routine.
The CMO disclosed that dengue mosquitoes mostly bite from 0800 hrs to 1000 hrs and between 1500 hrs and 1700 hrs in the evening.
It may be mentioned here that around one thousand cases of suspected dengue are unreported in Phagwara.
