Over 21,000 pigs culled in Mizoram this year

Aizawl, Sep 10 (UNI) The African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in Mizoram has led to the culling of over 21,000 pigs this year, with the total number standing at 21,138, officials from the state Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department reported on Tuesday.
The number of pigs culled surged on Tuesday, with 222 pigs put down across five districts, compared to 102 on Monday and 45 on Sunday. According to daily records, the number of culled pigs rises in tandem with an increase in pig deaths due to ASF.
After a brief period of respite, the daily toll spiked again on Tuesday, with 111 pig deaths reported across five districts. The highest number of deaths was recorded in Chhumkhum village in southern Mizoram’s Lunglei district, where 19 pigs died.
