OSOU gets UGC recognition to offer UG and PG courses from 2018-19

Sambalpur, Aug 10(UNI) The Odisha State Open University (OSOU), one among the youngest open universities in India, has received University Grants Commission (UGC)'s recognition to offer Post Graduate (PG) and Under Graduate (UG) programmes from the academic session 2018-19.

The distance education bureau of UGC has granted permission to OSOU to offer 26 Courses through open and distance learning mode from the 2018-2019 to 2022-2023.

“This is a historic moment for OSOU and students of Odisha. We received approval for almost all the courses we applied, said Prof (Dr.) Srikant Mohapatra, vice-chancellor of the University.

The University will run the approved programmes through its study centres located at the University campuses and Autonomous Colleges across Odisha.

“One can be assured of the quality of teaching, Prof. Mohapatra said, adding that the students will be allowed to write in either English or Odia language in the examinations and the teaching method to be followed will be bilingual.

OSOU with headquarters at Sambalpur is established by an Act of the Odisha State Legislature in 2015. The University has jurisdiction over the entire state of Odisha.

Presently the University offers certificate, diploma and post graduate diploma programmes in 42 areas. There are about 10000 students from different parts of Odisha presently studying in the University and with recognition of the new programmes, the number is expected to rise significantly, OSOU sources said.

As per the UGC guidelines all the admission process for UG and PG shall be completed before October 1 next.
"Students from any part of Odisha can now complete Bachelors or Master Degree at their convenience through our technology enabled distance learning programmes,”Prof Mohapatra said.
