Opposition parties demands to constitute a JPC to probe into Hindenburg Research report

Opposition parties demands to constitute a JPC to probe into Hindenburg Research report

New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) Several Opposition parties including Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) on Thursday demanded to the Centre to either constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) or set up an inquiry under the Chief Justice of Supreme Court to look into the Hindenburg Research report, which alleged that Adani group had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades.
“We demand that Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) should be formed , or there should be an impartial inquiry under the supervision of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, whose report should be made public day by day,” Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, flanked by other Opposition leaders including SP’s Ram Gopal Yadav , said referring to the Hindenburg Research report at a joint press conference here.
Kharge added, “We all have decided that in one voice we will raise this issue (in Parliament). Our demand is also to hold a discussion on this matter.”
The Congress chief on Thursday gave suspension of Business Notice in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the issue of investment by LIC, public sector banks and financial institutions in companies losing market value, endangering the hard-earned savings of crores of families, in the wake of the report.
Both Houses of the Parliament were adjourned on Thursday for the day amid uproar by the Opposition over the matter.
Meanwhile, Congress’ Chairman of Media and Publicity Department , Pawan Khera at a press conference here over the same, reiterated the party’s demand for JPC or probe by the Chief Justice of Supreme Court.
Attacking the ruing BJP, Khera said, “A report by the prestigious Hindenburg Research in the US has accused the Adani group of the ‘Biggest Ever Corporate Con’. But, the Modi government has maintained a stoic silence on the Hindenburg Research report, as if nothing has happened. It is not hidden from anyone that how the Modi government has helped its best friend Adani.”
“When our leader Rahul Gandhi talks about ‘Suit Boot Ki Sarkar’, ‘Hum Do, Hamare Do’ and now ‘Mitra Kaal’, he is not talking about any particular industrialist - he is talking about the murky system that Modi ji has set up for his selected friends to ‘loot’ the country. We are not against any particular Indian corporate house, we are against crony capitalism. When the rules are changed to benefit selected billionaires, we are against it,” he said.
