Opposition leaders to call on Central team visiting Amphan ravaged districts of Bengal

Kolkata, Jun 6 (UNI) Some of the opposition leaders, including BJP, CPI(M) and Congress are expected to call on the high-powered central team, which has been surveying the extent of damage caused by Amphan in West Bengal on May 21 last, later today.
The 7-member central team, which arrived on Thursday, has been visiting parts of cyclone affected South and North 24 Parganas and interacted with the affected people as well as the government
officials in remotest parts of the districts.
The team went around parts of Katandighi-Raidighi areas and talked to the villagers about the availability of relief materials and loss of agriculture and property.
The central team even confronted with the affected people, who lodged complaints of not having adequate relief to face untold situation, especially in the Sundarbans.
The officials were accompanied by local block development officer and panchayat members.
The team, headed by Anuj Sharma, joint secretary (cyber and information security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, on Friday visited Patharpratima in South 24 Parganas and Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas in two groups.
Sources said, BJP president Dilip Ghosh would lead a team to call on the central team, which is expected to meet state chief secretary Rajiva Sinha at Nabanna.
The oppositions alleged the government has failed to provide relief to many areas and even the ruling TMC was preventing them to organise relief work.
A BJP leader said the government forces were also preventing them to take up relief work in the name of lockdown.
Mr Ghosh said they would urge the central team to pay directly to the affected people.
The CPI(M) and Congress leaders are expected to call on the central team.
The cyclone hit hard to the two districts and Kolkata in which some 98 people were killed.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that the state suffered losses of Rs 1 lakh crore due to the cyclone.
