Ontario virtual biz mission to India begins

New Delhi/Ontario, Nov 30 (UNI) The Ontario government on Monday launched a virtual mission to India to continue to promote the province as a premier destination for international investment and create new opportunities for Ontario businesses.
During the mission, Ontario businesses will have the opportunity to participate virtually in business to business meetings and networking events, with hundreds of major players of the Indian telecom industry.
Canadian Minister Victor Fedeli will promote the province's advantage during proposed bilateral meetings with government and corporate leaders, including counterparts in the state governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.
In a webinar, organised by FCC South Asia, PIO-TV and India's premier news agency -- United News of India (UNI), Mr Fedeli said that from tomorrow, as part of the virtual trade delegation, there will be several meetings between business leaders and government officials from Ontario and the Indian states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.
"As we enter the phase of recovery and growth after the Covid19 pandemic, we feel this mission will help create jobs and new opportunities both in Ontario and India, We would like to highlight that Ontario is open for business, for jobs, for investment and for trade and for partnerships and collaborations with India,” Minister Fedeli averred.
UNI will be broadcasting live updates of the events during the virtual trade mission in India and countries with large Indian diaspora populations.
Ontario has the largest community of Canadians of Indian descent at 9,00,000 and last year it was host to
52,000 Indian students. "The province welcomes immigrants and the Ontario immigrant nominee program helps skilled professionals from India access an easy route to permanent residence,” the minister added.
Ontario has identified India as a key international trading and investment partner with considerable opportunities for growth. This virtual mission builds off the success of the province’s mission to India a year ago, which established positive relationships with government counterparts and key organisations including India’s National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) and VVDN Technologies.
Notably, the two-way trade between Ontario and India was worth 3.4 billion Canadian Dollar (US $2.6 billion) in 2019. This year's mission will focus on strategic sectors where Ontario enjoys competitive advantages in key global markets, including Information and Communications Technologies and Advanced Manufacturing. Boasting a highly skilled workforce, world-class innovation system, competitive business costs and access to global markets, Ontario is well-positioned to explore and expand trade and investment opportunities with India.
