One held with 17 rare species of turtles on Nepal border

Siddharthanagar, Nov 12 (UNI) In a joint operation by Uttar Pradesh Police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), an alleged wildlife smuggler was arrested on the Indo-Nepalese border here on Saturday night.

The man, identified as Ram Milan, was attempting to smuggle out 17 turtles which are on the list of endangered species, police sources said here on Sunday.

Among the turtles recovered from Milan’s possession were one 20-nailed black turtle, two red and 14 brown turtles, which are said to be rare species and for which there is great demand in Nepal.

The arrested man was charged with violation of the Wildlife Act and the seized turtles were handed over to the Forest Department.

Chennai, Jan 23 (UNI) The public sector Indian Oil on Wednesday
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu
government at the second edition of the Global Investors Meet (GIM)
for an investment of Rs 7,941 crores in the next five years.
