Bengaluru, Dec 3 (UNI) A Day after the central government confirmed detection of India's first cases of Omicron from this state, the Karnataka government on Friday issued a fresh set of guidelines including asking educational institutions to postpone all cultural activities, festivals and functions till January 15 next year.
The government issued a fresh set of guidelines to tackle spread of Omicron in the state, a day after the Centre confirmed the detection of India's first cases of the new Corona variant from the state.
The fresh guidelines have been released at the high-level meeting chaired by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai with the technical experts advisory committee over the new variant that has triggered global alarm.
Emerging from the meeting, Revenue Minister R Ashoka said people will not be allowed inside malls and theatres in Karnataka unless they are fully vaccinated.
Only 500 people will be allowed to attend all gatherings, meetings and conferences among other events, and asked the organisers to strictly enforce Covid appropriate behaviour, the minister said.
Ashoka also said BBMP, district and local authorities will impose a fine of Rs 250 in municipal corporation areas and Rs l00 in other areas for any violation of the mask protocol.
Parents of children below 18 years who are going to school and college should be compulsorily vaccinated with two doses of Covid vaccine, Ashoka said adding that compulsory testing of health workers, old persons above 65 years and persons with co morbidities will be undertaken by the government.
The Government servants should get themselves vaccinated with two doses of Covid-19 vaccine, the minister said.
He also said that there will be intensive containment (micro containment measures) and active surveillance in clusters and areas reporting higher cases to contain the spread Iocally.
Passengers arriving at airports in the state have to undergo tests for coronavirus and they will be allowed to leave the premises only after their test reports come in, Ashoka said.
A complaint has been lodged with the police against an Omicron-infected South Africa national who allegedly fled, he said.
