Oil Spill: Shoreline clean-up operation continues, 121 tonnes of oil sludge removed so far

Chennai, Feb 4 (UNI) Even as 121 tonnes of oil sludge was removed since the begining of clean-up operations after the January 28 collision between two ships off the Kamarajar Port near the northern suburb of Ennore, which resulted in oil spillage in sea, the shoreline clean-up operations continued with full force all along the affected areas throughout the day by Coast Guard personnel along with support from various government and non-government organizations.
Apart from removing 121 tonnes of oil sludge, 65 tonnes of oil-sand mix and 72 KL of oil-water mix has also been removed.
Union Minister of State for Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan visited Ramakrishna Nagar Kuppam site earlier in the day.
