Officials confirm tremors in Chungthang have stopped, IIT Kharagpur experts to investigate the cause

Gangtok,Jul15 (UNI) The residents of Chungthang, living near the Lachen river, experienced sudden tremors on the mid-night of 14-15 July last and informed the BDO office there.
Due to incessant rains, the Teesta Urja Power Project, which has its Dam located at Chungthang, had released water from its reservoir. The huge volume of released water is believed to have swept away large boulders and may have caused tremors, sources have said.
The people living in the area, too, have told those who went to investigate the sudden quivering that they suspect the movement of big boulders in the river to be the cause.
