Office of Profit case: HC refuses relief to AAP MLAs

Office of Profit case: HC refuses relief to AAP MLAs

New Delhi, Jan 19 (UNI) The Delhi High Court on Friday refused to grant any interim relief to the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, whose names were recommended to the President by the Election Commission for disqualification, for allegedly holding the office of profit.
Seven MLAs of AAP have mentioned before a Delhi High Court bench for urgent hearing of their petition.
One Prashant Patel has filed a petition before the Election Commission against 20 MLAs, who were appointed as Parliamentary Secretaries by the AAP government in Delhi.
While hearing the petition, Judge Rekha Palli enquired the conduct of the MLAs before the EC and said that they did appear before the poll panel, taking shield of the fact that their pleas were pending in the High Court.
Justice Palli on Friday said she was not inclined to pass any order or issue notice and asked the EC to clarify the queries raised by her. She further asked the EC to inform till January 22, whether any final communication has been sent to President Ram Nath Kovind on the disqualification of the MLAs.
As per the EC, being Parliamentary Secretaries and by holding the office of profit, the AAP leaders were liable to be disqualified as MLAs of Delhi Assembly.
