Entertainment » OtherPosted at: Jul 25 2017 9:30PM Odisha to introduce Act to regulate fishing in Chilka LakeBhubaneswar,July 25 (UNI) Odisha Cabinet today approved a proposal to introduce an Act to regulate fishing and fishery activities in Chilika lake,the largest brackish water lagoon in Asia.Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting Chief Secretary A P Padhi said the Act was necessary to regulate fishery activities in a responsible and sustainable manner and to address the rights of the traditional fishermen living in and around Chilika.The proposed Act will prohibits certain activities detrimental to the long term interest of the stakeholders like fishing in eco-sensitive areas including outer channel, use of zero net, mantle nets and net box having mesh size less than 10 MM, capture of some species of cabs, prawn and prawn below a particular size and mullet fishing during breeding seasons and aqua culture, including pen, cage and gherries culture.Please log in to get detailed story.Tags: #Odisha to introduce Act to regulate fishing in Chilka Lake
