Odisha school teacher jailed for govt fund embezzlement

Bhubaneswar, Dec 12 (UNI) A Special Vigilance Court in Odisha’s Kandhamal district today convicted a teacher of a government-run school on the charges of embezzling government funds and sentenced him to undergo four years of rigorous imprisonment.
“Ramakanta Sethy, former Headmaster-cum-Secretary, Project Upper Primary School (PUPS), Boudh currently serving as assistant teacher, Gundulia UGHS in Boudh district, who was chargesheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988/409/120B IPC for misappropriating government money without executing the construction work of Project Upper Primary School building at Budhibalanda, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and fine of Rs 20,000," the Vigilance Court said in a statement.
After the Court pronounced the verdict, the convict was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence. Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Mallick from service following his conviction, it added.
