Odisha minister resigns over his controversial statement on Pipili gang rape and murder case

Bhubaneswar, Jan 06 (UNI) Amidst criticism and protest demonstrations from Opposition Congress and BJP on his controversial statement in the Pipili gang rape and murder case, Odisha Agriculture and Panchayati Raj minister Pradeep Maharathy today resigned from the post.
The ruling BJD government was under tremendous pressure from the Opposition political parties who had launched a scathing attack on Mr. Maharathy, staged demonstration before his residence and also Chief Minister’s residence, demanding the dismissal of the minister and a CBI probe into the incident.
On December 25 last,Mr. Maharathy in his remark to the judgment of Pipili gang rape and murder case acquitting two prime accused for lack of evidence , had hailed the verdict of the court and stated that the the truth had finally prevailed and the victim got the justice.

Shillong, April 15 (UNI) Vigilance by the police and paramilitary forces has been mounted along the Meghalaya-Assam inter-state boundary and the international border that the state shares with neighbouring Bangladesh in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for April 19.
Meanwhile, in a significant joint operation conducted on Monday, the troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier and Meghalaya Police seized a huge quantity of dry betel nuts from the bordering area of the South Garo Hills district of the state.
