Odisha govt delaying 415 km Digha-Gopalpur Coastal Highway project: Pradhan

New Delhi, Jan 22 (UNI) Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday accused Naveen Patnaik led Odisha government for adopting delay tactics and not been forthcoming in extending the requisite clearances related to forest and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) in more than two-year old Digha-Gopalpur Coastal Highway project under 'Bharatmala Pariyojana' of the Central government.
Briefing reporters here, Mr Pradhan said, "The 415 KM long highway will hug the Bay of Bengal along the coast of Odisha and create unprecedented avenues for development. The ambitious Digha to Gopalpur coastal highway under Bharatmala Pariyojana is one of the grandest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in Odisha."
"To speedily implement the Coastal Highway project, National Highway Authority of India on behalf of the Government appointed consultants to undertake the preparation of Detailed Project Report in February 2016. Since then several consultations and suggestions were received. Factoring in the various suggestions of the State Government, the Centre approved the revised alignment in July, 2018. In September, NHAI requested the state government to extend cooperation for completion of the pre construction activity," the Minister said.
