OCE Open: Ramkumar wins; Gunneswaran goes down fighting

Chandigarh, Sept 19 (UNI) Sixth seed Ramkumar Ramanathan of India defeated Maximilian Neuchrist of Austria in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the 150,000 dollar Kaohsiung OCE Open in Chinese Taipei. The match lasted just one hour and two minutes in which Ramkumar unleashed six aces and committed four double faults. Maximilian fired three aces and committed same number of double faults. He saved five out of eight break points, while Ramkumar saved two break points out of two.
However, Prajnesh Gunneswaran, eighth seeded Indian in the tournament, went down fighting to Jurij Rodionov of Austrian. In the three-set 105-minute contest, Rodionov won 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. Gunneswaran won 36 per cent (4/11) break points while his rival won 46 per cent break points (6/13).
In doubles, Second seeded Indian pair of N Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan disposed of the challenge of Yuichi Sugita of Japan and Chu-Huan Yi of Taipei in the straight sets 6-1, 7-5 in 64 minutes in the first round of the men's doubles.
