Obey dress code: Karnataka Minister tells protesting students

Bengaluru, Jan 19 (UNI) Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh on Wednesday asked six protesting students to obey the dress code as it has been in vogue for the last 36 years.
This statement by the minister comes in the wake of a controversy over a few female students wanting to wear hijabs during class hours in Udupi district. They were denied entry into the classrooms as the college has enforced restrictions on wearing hijabs during class hours. However, the students are free to wear hijabs on the college campus.
The minister said the dress code is to avoid complications. "When this rule has been in vogue for the last 36 years, it should be followed. What's the problem with six students with it when 94 other students are okay with it. I have just one request to make - kindly adhere to the dress code," he said.
