NSUI Goa demands abolition of capitation fees in state

Panaji, May 23 (UNI) The Goa unit of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday demanded abolition of capitation fees allegedly collected by the higher educational institutions in the state.
Addressing a press conference at Congress State headquarters in the city, NSUI Goa unit President Ahraz Mulla,''The donations taken by the schools or colleges have to be highlighted and stopped because we believe that it is a scam in the name of education. What we have seen is that education department had come up with a warning that schools should not have any capitation fees and they will be charged ten times if the schools were found to be charging capitation fees. But what they have failed to curb is that capitation fee is still taken in the name of school development.''
The school development fund was nothing but a scam by the schools, he claimed, adding there had been instances when students had been instructed by the schools to go to certain coaching institutes to ensure admission.
