Not appropriate for us to work with Pakistani artists: Babul Supriyo

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Indian playback singer, BJP MP and Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Babul Supriyo said he is not against any Pakistani artist, but since their is animosity between Pakistan and India, it is not appropriate for us to work with them.

After the release of the song ‘Ishtehaar’ from movie ‘Welcome To New York’, Babul demanded the song to be banned or have Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice removed and replaced in the song.

Talking to mediapersons, Babul said, 'I am not against any Pakistani artist. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Sahab is a very accomplished artist. But we believe that currently, given the kind of animosity between India and Pakistan with our soldiers being martyred, it is not appropriate for us to work with Pakistani artists and that is why I asked for the song to be banned.”

Producer of the film Vashu Bhagnani said, 'I have always respected the soldiers. My intention was never to hurt any sentiments but after having a word with Babulji, I promised that we won’t work with Pakistani artists until the relationship between the two countries improve.'

Music director Shamir Tandon and CEO of Indian Films and Television Producers Council (IFTPC) Suresh Amin were also present at the event.

'Ishtehaar’ from the film ‘Welcome To New York’ has been sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Dhvani Bhanushali and composed by Shamir Tandon with lyrics penned by Charanjeet Charan.

'Welcome To New York' is an upcoming Indian 3D comedy film, directed by Chakri Toleti, produced by Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky Bhagnani, starring Diljit Dosanjh, Sonakshi Sinha, Karan Johar, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Boman Irani.

The movie is produced by Pooja Films and Wiz Films with Music by Pooja Music, ‘Welcome To New York’ releases worldwide on February 23.
