Shimla/New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) With the cold wave sweeping the country, Shimla and Manali remained coldest in Himachal Pradesh as the mercury plunged to minus 3.2 degree Celsius and minus 6.6 degree, respectively, freezing water pipes while the national capital recorded the lowest minimum temperature of the season so far, at 4 degrees C, three notches below normal today. The minimum temperature plunged by several degrees in the hill state. During the wee hours, commuters had to brave worst situations as they faced extremely slippery roads. Many places are still snow-bound in Shimla, Kinnaur, Chamba and Lahaul Spiti, where people are cut off from the past few days living without power, water, essentials and in abysmal condition inside their homes. The mercury plunged near freezing point in most places and several degrees below in minus in the high reaches as Keylong in Lahaul Spiti district registered minus 11.4 degree C, however, higher places like Kaza in Spiti valley froze in between minus 15 to 17 degree C. Kalpa of Kinnaur was also cold as minimum temperature decreased to minus 8.6 degree C. All glacial bodies like Suraj and Chander Taal and other water fountains froze, reducing water discharge in the downstreams and further leaning power generations in the hydro projects of the state. Solan recorded minus one degrees, Kangra 0.7 degree C, Unà 0.6 degree C, Sundernagar in Mandi at 0.4 degree C, Bhuntar of Kullu 1.5 degree C, Nahan recorded three degrees C and Dharamshala 7.2 degrees C. The national capital of Delhi registered the lowest minimum temperature of the season so far, at 4 degrees C, three notches below normal. Train and flight services in the city were also affected due to fog. As many as 26 trains were running late, seven rescheduled and 11 got cancelled. Besides, one international and five domestic flights were delayed. The weatherman said the maximum temperature is likely to settle at 17.0 degrees C. He said the weather would remain same in the next two days. Snow on rooftops and both sides of roads remained frozen in the Kashmir Valley, including this summer capital, where the minimum temperature recorded a considerable drop though the Sun was appearing during the day but the intensity of heat was very low due to icy cold winds. While the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was freezing at minus 13 degree C, the famous health resort of Pahalgam recorded minus 12.4 degree C, coldest of the season so far at both the places. Leh at minus 16 degree C was the coldest in the region and border town of Kargil recorded minus 14 degree C in Ladakh region, where all water bodies remained frozen. Against yesterday's minus 13 degree C, the minimum temperature at Leh was minus 16 degree C, coldest so far while at Kargil it was minus 14 degree C against yesterday's minus 12.4 degree C.
