It was informed that there are about 3,900 rural ponds to which water is being supplied through the canals. The number of such ponds would soon be increased to 4,300. One model pond would be developed in each district of the State within next six months. With this, Haryana would be the first State in the country to have one model ponds in each district.
It was also informed that the work on preparing Pond Atlas is in progress and it would be completed within next three months. At present, details of 10,000 existing ponds have been collected jointly by departments of Irrigation and Water Resources and Development and Panchayats. After the completion of this work, Haryana would be the first state in the country to prepare a pond Atlas where the details about the ponds would be made available online.
Executive Vice-Chairman of the Authority, Subhash Pandey thanked the Chief Minister for setting up Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority for the management and rejuvenation of natural water resources in the State. He said that a target has been fixed to develop 200 new ponds in the State in the next three years.
