Nonagenarian anti-uranium activist passes away in Meghalaya

Shillong, Oct 29 (UNI) Anti-uranium activist Spelity Lyngdoh Langrin, who refused to sell her land to the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) to mine Uranium in Meghalaya’s South West Khasi Hills district bordering Bangladesh, has passed away. She was 95.
“She passed away at 11.30 pm on Wednesday after a long illness, but she died peacefully at her residence in Domiasiat village,” Spelity’s daughter, Smerela Lyngdoh Langrin, told UNI.
Spelity has been suffering from various age-related diseases but has not been able to get much of needed medical attention due to the non-existence of a health centre in the village.
