Bengaluru, Sep 27 (UNI) Opposition Congress sponsored no-confidence motion against the 15-month-BJP government led by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, was defeated by voice vote
after a four-hour-long discussion in the Karnataka Assembly, in the wee hours of Sunday.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Vishveshwari Hegde Kageri, had put the no-trust motion for a voice vote and declared that the motion was defeated and adjourned the house.
Earlier, speaking on the motion, the main opposition leader, Siddaramaiah, had launched a broadside attack on the BJP government and Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, accusing that the government had been soaked with corruption.
Accusing that the state government had miserably failed in containing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic the Opposition leader charged that the family members of the chief minister were involved in various corruptions.
Stating that the Chief Minister had failed in protecting the interests of the state, and remained a mute spectator when the Union Government had refused to release rightful grants, he said, adding, "The Chief Minister had also failed to secure financial assistance to take up flood relief works in the state".
Stoutly denying the corruption charges, hurled by the Opposition Leader, the Chief Minister had challenged to prove the charges by taking the matters to the legal authorities, including Lokayukta.
The house had also witnessed a verbal duel between the Opposition leader Siddaramaiah and the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, during the debate, which lingered on early morning hours today.
Senior Congress member and the KPCC president D K Shivakumar had also spoken on the motion and accused that the state government had failed miserably and the No-trust motion had been
moved in the house on behalf of the people of the state.
