No nomination for Nagaland Lok Sabha seat poll on day 1

Kohima, May 4 (UNI) As the process of filing nominations for the Nagaland Lok Sabha by-elections, scheduled to be held on May 28, began on yesterday, there was no nomination paper filed for the seat.

Sources said that as most of the political parties were still undecided on their choice of candidates, however the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) party, which is in alliance with the BJP, NPP and JD (U), informed that they were likely take the opportunity to contest the bye-poll.

However, the state BJP sources informed that the party was likely to make way for NDPP, as consensus candidate of the alliance. The decision to field Peoples Democratic Alliance consensus candidate will be made after Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, currently in Delhi, returns to state today.

For the opposition party, the Naga Peoples Front spokesperson Achumbemo Kikon had informed on Wednesday that the decision will be made known at the right time as consultations were still on.

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee sources also informed that the party will be fielding its candidate. When asked about supporting a non-BJP party candidate, like the NPF, NPCC sources said NPF was still very much part of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) headed by the BJP. “There is no question of supporting any party that has truck with the BJP. As a notional party we are bound to fight the Lok Sabha elections,” sources added.
