No Friday prayers in Hazratbal shrine in over a decade; 4th consecutive week in Jamia Masjid

Srinagar, Aug 5 (UNI) For the first time in over a decade, no Friday prayers were offered in Hazratbal shrine, which houses the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad, where separatists had decided to assemble and pay tribute to the people killed in security force firing since July 9.
Meanwhile, no Friday prayers could be offered for the fourth consecutive week today in historic Jamia Masjid in the Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) due to strict curfew restrictions imposed in the area.
People living in Hazratbal area alleged that they were not even allowed to officer Friday prayers in local mosques. “Since early in the morning security forces were making announcements through loudspeakers directing us to remain indoors. But it is unfortunate that we were not even allowed to go out for Friday prayers,” said Shabir Ahmad, a resident of Hazratbal over phone.
