No explosion in concrete tank in Uranium-rich Meghalaya

Shillong, Sep 22 (UNI) District authorities in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills on Tuesday confirmed that there was no explosion in a concrete tank allegedly containing radioactive remnants of an exploratory uranium mining in 1993 at Nongbah-Jynrin.
On the other hand, the district police of South West Khasi Hills termed the social media reports of the ''explosion'' as "fake news" and said that they will ask the Cyber Crime Cell to investigate the matter.
''A magistrate and a police team had visited the site and there was no such explosion. However, the team found that there was hole in one the concrete tank which appeared to have been dug up intentionally,'' Deputy Commissioner South West Khasi district C Kharkongor told UNI over phone.
