No difference between Govt and Oppn over fight against COVID-19: Cong

New Delhi, Apr 8 (UNI) The Congress on Wednesday that there is no difference between the ruling party and the opposition in the fight against Coronavirus and the whole country will support the decision taken by the Central and state governments over the period of lockdown.
“The whole country is fighting unitedly against Corona virus at this time. Our fight is not with the government at the moment, but in this fight, the government and the opposition are together”, said senior Congress leader and opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad, after the meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mr Azad, however, said that there is a dire need to increase testing to prevent COVID-19.
“We have a very low proportion of testing. The government should increase testing facilities and make it free”, he said, adding that there is a need to pay attention to the problem of workers, farmers and the common man.
While talking about the meeting of the Prime Minister and floor leaders of political parties in the Parliament, Mr. Azad said that there was a similarity in the views of most of the leaders regarding the lock-down.
“The Prime Minister himself said that he will talk to all the Chief Ministers over the extension of lock down and a decision will be taken according to the opinion of everyone”, the Congress leader said.
The Congress also demanded to the Prime Minister that a multi-party working group should be formed at the central level to fight against Coronavirus, adding “it can get information from government sources as well as non-governmental ways”.
According to government sources, Mr. Modi will hold discussions with the Chief Ministers via video conference on April 11.
As the twenty-one-day lock-down ends on April 14 and the Prime Minister will talk to the Chief Ministers on Saturday on whether to extend the 21-day lockdown or end it.
Mr. Azad further said that the priority at this stage is to save the people and to prevent the corona outbreak to reaching the third stage.
