Nitish launches ‘Gram Parivahan Yojana’, distributes vehicles

Patna, Oct 09 (UNI) Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today launched ‘Mukhya Mantri Gram Parivahan Yojana’ with an objective to improve transport facility at Gram Panchayat and block levels.
Launching the scheme through remote here, Mr Kumar said that the scheme had been started at one Gram Panchayat each in Samastipur and Nalanda districts on a pilot basis. He said that vehicles had been distributed among nine beneficiaries on the first day. Subsidy up to 50 per cent of vehicle price or maximum up to Rs1 lakh would be given to the buyer of a vehicle.
CM said five vehicles would be purchased for each Gram Panchayat. He said that out of five beneficiaries in each Gram Panchayat, three beneficiaries should be members of SCs and STs and two should be members of EBCs. He said remote villages are being connected with block headquarters under the scheme adding that each vehicle would have the sitting capacity of four people to 10 people. E-rickshaws should also be purchased under the scheme as these are not only proper for short distance travel but also these are environment-friendly.
