Nitish inaugurates bird festival, appeals for treating birds kindly

Jamui, Jan 16 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday inaugurated the first state bird festival and appealed to the people to not to ill treat birds.
Mr Kumar inaugurated the first bird festival in Naga Nakti bird sanctuary here and asked people to remain sensitive towards protecting the birds and the environment. Sighting of various breeds of birds always brought pleasure to one's mood and all efforts should be made to increase the forest cover of the state for the purpose, he added.
"Bird festival has been organised to create interest and awareness among the people for protection of birds", Chief Minister said adding that a mega plantation drive was launched in 2012 which helped in increasing the forest cover to 15 percent. Similarly, Bihar government had launched "Jal Jeevan Hariyali" programme in 2018 to create awareness among the people for protection of the environment and minimise the ill effects of climate changes, he added.
